On Oct. 1st during the first Gubernatorial Debate in Rochester, Mark Dayton said that MNSure only increased by 4.5% which is basically a lie. In order for Dayton to come up with that figure he took the 4 remaining insurers, added up what the changes were and divided by 4 and got 4.5%.

One problem is Dayton failed to weigh the 4 remaining companies by how many people are signed up for each, instead giving them all equal weight. When weighted properly the 4 remaining insurers’ rates will on average go up 11.8 & per person.

The other problem is Dayton also left out the 60% of people who were signed up with Preferred One. To stay with Preferred One their rates will go up 63%. If you include Preferred One the average cost of MNSure is going up 42% per person.
