At a time when Wisconsin is turning more and more Conservative and fighting the Public Sector Trade Unions and more and more states are passing "Right to Work" laws, Governor Dayton is taking Minnesota the opposite direction. Dayton tried unsuccessfully to unionize daycare workers in Minnesota so now it seems like he's trying to put them out of business by forcing Universal Pre-K. Mark Dayton seems to do whatever the Teacher's Union wants whether its good for the kids and the economy or not.

We could have been another Wisconsin

In 2010 Republicans won both houses and would have won the Governorship had they not run 2 candidates, Tom Emmer and Tom Horner. By splitting the Republican vote Mark Dayton (D) won with 43.6%. If Tom Emmer, who got a very close 43.2%, would have won in 2010 the Republicans would have had a super majority and would have balanced the budget without raising taxes even though we had a six billion dollar deficit at the time. This would have turned Minnesota into a Republican utopia and more business friendly like Wisconsin.

Instead, Mark Dayton won and he ran his campaign on "Taxing the Rich" and he thought he had a mandate to do so and was willing to shutdown the Government over it. The Republicans had managed to erase the $6 billion debt without raising taxes but Dayton still shutdown the Government in 2011 to get his "Tax the Rich" tax which he eventually did. The Republicans then got the blame for shutting down the Government and in 2012 they lost both houses and Minnesota went entirely to the Democrats.

In 2013 with the Democrats now having a super majority went on a feeding frenzy taxing everything in site which caused many businesses to leave the state so in 2014 the Democrats lost the Minnesota House for overreach. Now in 2015 we have a $2 billion surplus because of all the increased taxes. The Republicans want to give it back but Dayton wants to give it to his Education Union cronies by creating Universal Pre-K for now and in perpetuity. Adding insult to injury Dayton also wanted a gas tax increase, just because. Last week Governor Dayton vetoed a $42 billion bipartisan budget which is 40% bigger than the last time he shutdown the Government just 4 years ago.

The Democrats took a poll to see who would get blamed if they shutdown the Government again. The poll must have came back saying the Republicans would get the blame so it looks like they are going to shut it down again. It worked so well for them in 2011 so why not do it again.
