Well, it's Groundhog Day... again... and that must mean we're up here at Gobbler's Knob waiting for the forecast from the world's most-famous groundhog weatherman, Punxsutawney Phil, who's just about to tell us how much more winter we can expect.

A quote from my favorite movie "Groundhog Day"

Today Punxsutawney Phil didn't see his shadow and predicts an ealy spring. Which seems counter intuitive because here in Minnesota it was sunny and -10º.

But still this is great news, an early spring, just think in about 2 weeks grass will be growing, birds chirping and the miracle of photosynthesis will begin anew. All that nasty CO2 will be gobbled up by the newly awakened hungry plants, which in turn will, in a symbiotic way, churn out oxygen in the sweet smelling air of spring.
Groundhog day has its roots in the early pagan celebration of Imbolc. It came at the mid-point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. Superstition held that if the weather was sunny on Febuary 2, the second half of Winter would be stormy and cold. Which to the early pagans a bad thing.
Now if we actually have an early spring, which I'll believe it when I see it, the anti-global warming crowd will run around like Chicken Little screaming "The Globe is Warming! The Globe is Warming!"
